CPAS Huddle Up

The Problem

Coaches and athletes needed a place that felt like a team room — not a generic social feed. Film review, drills, and pre-game talk had to live in one mobile app, with a path to go live when the squad needed a huddle in real time.

What I Built

I owned the React Native frontend for CPAS Huddle Up, a sports coaching community for a previous company client. Rooms are the core unit: discover clubs by sport, join featured and upcoming sessions, post film and drills, and start live podcast / film-review sessions over Agora.

The product shipped live in 2023 and has since been sunset.

Major Features

• Explore & join rooms — Search and browse Featured / Upcoming / Suggested rooms (football, soccer, basketball, and more) with member counts and join CTAs.
• Room feed — Coach and athlete posts with images, titles, and comments inside a room — film breakdowns, drills, and live announcements.
• Agora livestream podcasts — Start a titled live session, stream audio into the room, and keep a live comment thread while the review runs.
• Auth & coach onboarding — Login, multi-step registration (account, profile, address, coaching record), OTP, and plan/subscription surfaces.
• Account & moderation — Coach profiles by plan, notifications, invites, and report flows.

Key Challenges

Rooms had to feel like clubs, not chats. Explore, join, and the in-room feed needed the same mental model so coaches could run a community without teaching a new product language.

Livestream on the same surface as posts. Agora live sessions sat next to async film posts — start/stop, titles, and comments had to stay clear on flaky mobile networks, not just studio Wi-Fi.

Client product constraints. Frontend work had to match the coaching brand (Huddle Up / CPAS) and ship subscription-aware profiles without owning the whole backend.

Results

Huddle Up shipped as a live React Native client app with room discovery, social feed, and Agora-powered live podcasts for coaching communities. The product is no longer online.

Stack Decisions

React Native for iOS/Android from one codebase. Agora for live podcast / film-review audio — lower lift than a custom WebRTC stack when the product need was room livestream + comments, not peer calling.
